Some might say I do things with language, which could also be interpreted as doing language with things.

Through a personalised pursuit of drawing, painting, collage and typography what happens in the studio evolves into a deliberately awkward parallel structure of meaning which is often achieved through reproduction. As a result, each time a transformation takes place something different occurs.

This feeling is in-itself nothing but a form of sensation. Ultimately, the process of making finds a way to disrupt an established pattern of meaning such as perceptions of value, class, or identity which have always been the foundation for what I do.

Based in the U.K. I work and live between Manchester, London & Scotland.

C O L L E C T I O N S

Work is held at the Tate Collection as well as the Tate Library for artist’s books who also hold a substantial amount of self-published titles. Works are also held in the collections of the Whitworth Art Gallery at the University of Manchester, & The British Council Art Collection along with various private collections. .

Presently, I am Reader (Associate Professor) in Fine Art, Manchester School of Art at Manchester Metropolitan University. I am also External Examiner on the MFA at City & Guilds School of Art, London. Previously, I have been Lecturer at Glasgow School of Art, as well as External Examiner at the University of Reading, UWE, Bristol, & Leeds Beckett University.
